Removing mods safely

Short answer: Create a backup, stop the server, then go to [Your Server] > Mods > Installed and select Remove next to the mod. Start the server and check the world.

  • Removing a mod installed from the Mods page
  • Removing a mod you installed by hand
  • Going back if the world breaks
  1. Create a backup.
  2. Stop the server on the Console page.
  3. Go to Mods and open the Installed tab.
  4. Select Remove next to the mod.
  5. Confirm. This deletes the downloaded files and removes the mod from the server’s configuration.
  6. Start the server and check the console and your world.
  1. Create a backup and stop the server.
  2. In Files, delete the mod’s files from the mods folder your game uses (see your game’s guide).
  3. If you added the mod to a config file or mod list, remove it there too.
  4. Start the server.
  1. Restore the backup from step 1 with Restore safely… on the Backups page. The mod is still uninstalled, so either reinstall it, or ask the mod’s community how to remove it cleanly.

The mod is gone from Installed, the server starts, and the console doesn’t mention it.

  • Removing a mod other mods depend on. Remove the mods that need it too, or the server may not start.
  • Removing world-changing mods mid-game. Check the mod’s page for removal advice first.
  • Not telling players. They may need to remove it on their side too.
